The School Day
The school opens at 8:30am and our day begins with transitions from transport and breakfast club. Structured lessons begin at 9.00am and end at 3.00pm.
We have 6, 50-minute lessons each day and these include, Maths, English, ICT, Science, PSHE, PE and a range of practical subjects. These lessons are taught in small groups, of up to 10 children in a class. Our skilled staff, support learners with personalised learning interventions which impact on the learning for all learners in all subjects.
In Key Stage 4 the offer is a broad and balanced curriculum. Notably, students engage in five weekly lessons of both mathematics and English, ensuring a strong foundation in these core subjects. Additionally, there are at least three science lessons per week, providing a comprehensive understanding of scientific principles.
At the culmination of Year 9, students are presented with an array of academic and vocational subjects to choose from for their studies in Year 10. This diverse selection includes Media, Business, Citizenship, B-Tec Sport, Catering, Construction, and Creative Design. This approach empowers students to tailor their education to their interests and future aspirations, fostering a well-rounded and personalised learning experience.
Learners can also access therapeutic sessions with a trained Trauma Informed Practitioner, and work with our ELSA specialist. Pastoral interventions are woven into the school day through whole class, small group work and one-to-one sessions depending on the individual needs of the child.
Each learner at our school has an individualised Engagement Support Plan which is tailored to their specific needs. All staff work closely with this to ensure that the specific needs of each individual learner are reviewed, met and updated regularly.
This plan serves as a comprehensive resource for our staff, offering vital information on how to support each learner effectively. It plays a crucial role in recognising and responding to social and emotional needs, ensuring a proactive approach to maintaining the safety and well-being of our students.
Food at The Stable School
Learners are provided with a menu to support them in making their own food choices for the term. This operates on a fortnightly cycle and is reviewed with the learners every term. A hot meal is provided each day.
We pay particular attention to a balanced and healthy diet, using fresh ingredients wherever possible. We are able to accommodate specific dietary needs such as allergies and cultural requirements.
Our menus are reviewed every term ensuring learners views are captured and incorporated.
Uniform
At The Stable School we recognize, that many of our pupils have significant sensory processing difficulties and that they can struggle with the textures of fabrics or styles of clothing against their skin, and we know that in order to be calm, regulated and ready to learn our children need to be comfortable and relaxed.
Students may wear any shirt, blouse, T shirt, trousers or skirts including jeans and jogging bottoms. These items should be clean and smart in appearance. Students must wear shoes that fit well, are safe and comfortable; preferably ones that they can put on and take off themselves, including trainers of any colour.
Please see our Student Dress Code Policy for further information.
